Bernard Energy (“BEA”)

We are looking for an enthusiastic intern to join our team in Brussels for a period of 6 months, starting in May/June 2018.

BEA is an independent energy advisory firm specialised in the energy market, especially transmission, distribution and storage. Our activities are typically based on three main pillars: (i) Executive Business Development; (ii) Regulatory & Legal Support; and (iii) Advocacy & Policy Monitoring.

Our aim is to provide the clients with a unique “one-stop-shop” specialised in multi-disciplinary competences relating to the energy markets in Europe, the US, and the Middle East.

Additionally, BEA is part of the association Friends of the Supergrid, which advocates for an efficient, interconnected and resilient electricity grid to complement existing national transmission infrastructure. The pan-European energy infrastructure will secure the supply of a sustainable energy mix for Europe, which will foster economic welfare for the European citizens and create highly qualified jobs.

The internship is open to young professionals, including students enrolled in an academic educational institute. The position provides the intern with an opportunity to work in energy policy and European affairs in an international environment.

The intern would have the opportunity to experience first hand the activities of a specialised energy consultancy, as well as in the workings of an international association in Brussels.

Tasks of the intern:

  • Monitoring the developments in EU Energy Policy;
  • Monitoring the EU Institutions’ agendas;
  • Drafting briefs and articles;
  • Assisting in the preparation of various papers, reports, and memos for clients;
  • Doing research on worldwide energy projects;
  • Attending energy workshops, conferences, and seminars;
  • Assisting the team in managing the day-to-day work of the association; and
  • Supporting the team, including in the organisation of high-level events.

Profile and qualifications:

  • University studies in political science, EU studies, international relations, economics, international/European law, engineering, energy and the environment or related fields (preferably a recent graduate).
  • Knowledge of, and an interest in, EU energy legislation;
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, ability to synthesise information and communicate concisely, good analytical and drafting skills;
  • Ability to take initiative and to contribute proactively to the operations of a small team;
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential;
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications;
  • Affinity with social media tools is a plus;
  • Additional IT skills (e.g. WordPress) are a plus.

Important information:

  • This is a paid internship;
  • The employment contract will be under Belgian law; and
  • The intern must be authorised to work in Belgium.
