The associations will work towards the implementation of the projects that are part of the TYNDP 2016 in a timely manner
On 30 January 2018, ENTSO-E and Europacable published a Joint Paper in the context of ENTSO-E’s 2016 TYNDP, named ‘Forecast demand and manufacturing capacity for HVAC and HVDC underground and submarine cables’. In their joint position, the two associations, representing the European transmission operators and cable manufacturers respectively, state that “to meet its ambitious energy and climate objectives, the EU requires a well-integrated trans-European energy market, the pre-requisite of which will be a fully interconnected HV and EHV electricity grid network”.
The Joint Paper claims that to achieve the targets for interconnecting the European States “some 46.000 km of land and submarine cables are needed, 42.000 km of HVDC, and 4.000 km of HVAC”. According to the Paper, the annual production of HVDC and HVAC cables matches the demand forecasted for each year for the TYNDP projects in the next decade.
The associations recognise the importance of implementing the projects that are part of the TYNDP 2016 in a timely manner, as well as the importance of coherence between the forecasted demand for TYNDP projects of HVDC land and submarine cables in the coming decade and the annual cable production capacity of European manufacturers.
As a result of their common vision and ambitions, ENTSO-E and Europacable “commit to establishing a close cooperation and annual exchange of information to reflect any risk of delay or significant changes specifically with a view to the TYNDP projects”.
