The updated agreement promises to highlight the commitment of stakeholders to come together to address the challenges associated with the integration of large quantities of RES.
CEDEC, EDSO for Smart Grids, EURELECTRIC, GEODE and ENTSO-E signed an updated MoU aimed at achieving a common vision on active system management to integrate distributed energy resources (DERs). The parties will decide on further areas for collaboration at the beginning of 2019, taking into account the outcome of on-going trilogues on the “Clean Energy for All Europeans” Package.
The MoU is built upon the assumption that, in the coming years, DSOs and TSOs will come to face similar challenges associated with the integration of large quantities of RES. The roll-out of flexibility services, including demand side response, and associated new communication equipment and software, will inevitably increase the need for new digital solutions to increase grid interoperability. TSOs and DSOs will also cooperate for a more efficient implementation of the Network Codes, for which a Network Codes Implementation Group uniting TSO and DSO experts was set up in the third quarter of 2018.
